Virtual Reality and Social Media
Social media is the best way to leave some aspects of yourself out and add some parts that don’t exist in the real world. People tend to show just the good things about their lives. Social media profiles are kind of virtual reality portraits that don’t represent us in the real life. In the near future, the virtual version of ourself will become much more realistic, but still it won’t necessarily represent what we really are. That will be possible by using virtual reality technology on social media.
Oculus Rift, one of the biggest VR companies in the world, has been purchased by Facebook to be used on social media too and FB created a beta version of a VR app, Facebook Spaces, which you can use to create virtual avatars to hang out with your friends. This avatar may not look 100% like us but as graphic design technology is growing rapidly, we will be able to see our twin avatars on this app.
As VR is getting more realistic, people will spend more time on social media rather than spending time with their friends (physically) that will make us to ask ourselves how will we be able to tell the difference between the digital world and the physical world?
