It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since we launched the inaugural Journalism 360 Challenge at SXSW 2017. We’re back in Austin this year and from March 10 to March 15, we’ll be sharing insights from the Journalism 360 program and connecting with immersive storytelling enthusiasts.
To help you plan ahead, we’ve created a handy public Google calendar that captures the VR/AR journalism panels during the festival. Also, there will be a very informal meetup for Journalism 360 friends at the Four Seasons hotel lobby lounge on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Beyond the panels, several projects featured at the Virtual Cinema explore the use of VR in new ways. “Greenland Melting,” from “Frontline”/PBS and Emblematic, will be there for its North American debut as well as RYOT’s “Dinner Party”; “The Sun Ladies,” a piece about a female fighting unit in Iraq; Jessica Brillhart’s new project, “Beethoven’s Fifth”; and “Spheres,” which premiered at Sundance and was purchased for a record $1.7 million.
You will need a Platinum or Film Badge to check these out and can request an SXXpress Pass via the SXSW GO app ahead of time.
If you’re attending SXSW, come say hi! From the ONA team, Laura Hertzfeld, J360 program director; Trevor Knoblich, head of programs and events; and Jennifer Mizgata, director of programs, will be there along with several J360 ambassadors and winners of the Journalism 360 Challenge Awards.
